What is Margin Language and how is it different from Markdown?
Margin is a markup language designed specifically for real work. Unlike Markdown, which focuses on formatting, Margin lets you capture structure — tasks, decisions, metadata, and links — all in one fluid syntax without switching tools. Find out more →
Is my data stored in the cloud?
No. MellowMill is local-first by default. Your notes, tasks, and files remain on your machine as plain-text files; MellowMill does not store them on its servers. Back them up with Git, Dropbox, a USB drive, or the workflow you already use. If you connect your own AI provider, the relevant data is sent to that provider to answer your request.
Do I need to pay a subscription?
Start with the free version, which includes unlimited notes, tasks, tags, and local storage. When your work needs projects, due dates, version history, advanced tables, or AI, upgrade to Core with a one-time payment. We believe your productivity tool shouldn't be a recurring bill, so all future Core upgrades are included for free.
What platforms does MellowMill support?
MellowMill is available on Windows, with MacOS, Linux, and mobile support planned. Your notes are stored as simple files on your computer, so they're portable across any system.
Can I import notes from other apps?
Yes. MellowMill supports importing from Markdown allowing you to bring in data from a wide variety of tools.
